The state of Idaho has a few laws and regulations in place that help to protect consumers and insurers when investing in life insurance.

Idaho Life Insurance Laws Protecting Consumers (ID)

  • Title 41 of the state’s code: In order to protect you, the consumer, policy requirements and claim procedures are overseen by these laws.

  • The Free Look Provision: Gives all new life insurance policyholders 20 days to change their minds after purchasing their policy. All premiums paid must be fully refunded.

  • 30 Day Grace Period: The insurer cannot terminate your policy for one month of non payment, as long as your account is brought current within the 30-day window.

  • Insurance companies are required by law to settle a claim within two months of the file date, (unless it falls within the first two years of the policy and is contested by the insurer) and may accrue interest from the date of death until the settlement is completed.

Idaho Life Insurance Regulations Protecting Insurers (ID)

Idaho also puts laws and regulations in place to help protect insurers, including the following:

  • Misstatement and Fraudulent Findings: Such a find would enable the insurance company to cancel the policy and return all paid premiums. No claims will be honored in this case.

  • Falsified Age: At any time during the life of the policy, falsified age will result in the death benefit being adjusted to reflect the correct age of the insurer.

Additional Idaho Life Insurance Regulations (ID)

To help in the protection of your life insurance policy, the Idaho Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association) will financially back up your insurance policy in the event that your insurance company goes bankrupt. A death benefit has a restriction of $300,000 and a cash surrender limitation of $100,000.
