The Principal Financial Group was at one time named the Banker’s Life Association. This company was founded in 1879 as an inexpensive, dependable source of life insurance protection for bankers and their employees. They have grown to be a Fortune 500 company. As they added a fuller array of financial products, they were forced to relinquish the Banker’s Life name. In 1985, the company became The Principal Financial Group, a name better reflective of the many financial offerings this group offers. Currently, the group offers life and health insurance coverage for businesses and individuals.
