Guardian Life Insurance Company of America is the fourth largest mutual life insurance company in the US. Guardian Life was founded in 1860 in New York. Within two years, it had spread across the country. By 1868, it had opened offices in Europe (the first US company to do so). In 1925, the company converted from a mixed stock and mutual company to a wholly mutual company. As such, the policy holders own the company and receive dividends on their policies. The company currently offers life, disability, health, and dental insurance policies, as well as other financial products.
